I wanted to download a Firefox program to correct spelling, language, etc. When I clicked on the program, which said Firefox, it then said - do not download if you do not trust author.

Firefox is supposed to be a secure website. Do they allow us to go to programs labelled as Firefox products or downloads that are not safe?

If a download is labeled Firefox - wouldn't Firefox check it out to make sure that it was safe before it can be labeled as a Firefox add-on download?

My keys stick and do not print all too often. I need a spell check and grammar check.

Is this about installing a spell check dictionary or extension in Firefox or are you talking about external programs?

Most extensions aren't signed and thus give an untrusted author warning.
If you install an extension or dictionary from the Mozilla Add-ons site then those extensions have been examined unless otherwise stated and you confirm and accept that warning and install the extension although it is still possible that the extension isn't working properly.

Chances for problems with dictionaries are much less likely to occur.
