About a month ago I added AVG Tune Up (free???) which cleared registry errors and "optimized" my pc. everything was ok. On or around May 6 I had numerous crashes of Mozilla Firefox, it would just close the browser down, this happened for several days. Sometimes it closed within minutes and sometimes it would not shut down during the session. I did send the crash report to which Firefox support did reply with no definitive solution. It did reset firefox, I have the old settings folder on the desktop, and the crashes seemed to stop. Since the AVG Tune Up was the only thing that I had added I, instead of just removing it from the machine, did a rewind or go back to a date before it had been installed. That is when the horizontal split screen showed up, it happens in safari and IE ,though the Firefox browser is my default. I just can't figure which setting needs to be changed, can you help?

Chosen solution

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I disabled acceleration in the flash player by linking to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting and scrolling to the line that specifically outlined my problem - split horizontal screen with green line - clicked on the flash link then right clicked the flash icon and ticked disable acceleration. I also uninstalled and reinstalled more programs then I probably need to. We will see how long it lasts* site explains it may not be permanent
