problem with new adobe PDF download

more options

downloaded new firefox month or so ago with all the other adobe downloads. Had a prob with the Adobe Acrobat PDF plug in. I could not open any of my Pdf files on my comp, they would flash open then close in a second, tried everything I could think off. I removed the new Adobe and went back to AdobeAcrobat 10.1.4 plug in and everything worked fine again. There was an update for Adobe flash the other day, so updated it also updated the above plug in again and I had same prob so had to uninstall it & go back to old one but flash keep crashing and going slow. My system is Windows XP 2002 I have had more memory put in couple years ago.

Were you trying to open them using File > Open from within Firefox? I think it would be easier to open them directly in Adobe Reader.

Was the problem the Adobe Reader 10.1.7 update, or Adobe Reader 11.0.03? To try out the one that DIDN'T cause trouble (for security reasons):

  • To get the 10.1.7 update, you can use the Help > Check for Updates menu in Adobe Reader.

Regarding Flash, your plugins list shows two versions -- 11.7 and 11.8 -- which could be causing problems. I don't think you need both plugins.

Could you try removing one of them from its home here:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

There are a lot of files, but the plugin file names start with NPSWF32_11

its the 11.0.03 thats causing the problem. Im not trying to open in firefox , just a PDF file on my desktop downloaded from an email or a works file. Nothing would open that related to Adobe. I have PDF build plans from emails they wouldnt open. I have just deleted the flash 11.7 I will down load the 10.1.7 see how it goes

wont let me download the 10.1.7 it keeps telling me to download the 11 so I will stay with what I have. have uninstalled the extra flash but doesnt seem to have made any difference. Also when this Adobe 11.0.03 was installed I couldnt open firefox once it was closed down!

I can't think of a reason for Adobe Reader 11 to block Firefox. However, with so many installs and uninstalls, the Windows installer can get a backlog of clean-up tasks, and maybe there is a problem with multiple applications trying to access the same file. Restarting Windows might help.
