Why does my VP system throw a "Shutdown" when I use Firefox? It happens too with Chrome and IE but much less often.

I have an XP system. When I run FF it will throw a shutdown in anywhere from 30 seconds to maybe 30 minutes. Chrome and IE will too but often in 30 minutes to an hour. Other applications like office and it almost never shuts down. I suspect it may have something to do with the Java RT??

Start Firefox in Safe Mode. Poke around a few safe sites. Does the problem come back?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.
