FF29 made my bookmarks toolbar empty.

I had a nice row of bookmarks above my tabs in the previous version.

I'm not really diggin' this new UI, so I followed the steps provided to get the classic look back, with square tabs on the bottom and the bookmark star, but at some point during the fight with that hot mess of a customization menu, I dragged my bookmarks toolbar up to its home under my nav bar and accidentally back down and away, removing it from under my nav bar.

I rightclicked in the space above my tabs and rechecked the bookmarks toolbar option, but all I have now is the black and white star icon "Bookmarks" under my nav bar. Clicking this button sometimes brings up my bookmarks menu and sometimes does nothing. In that menu, listed under Bookmarks Toolbar, is all of my old bookmarks, but they aren't showing up in the toolbar itself. I tried to just refill my bookmarks toolbar by dragging a tab up into it (which is much more difficult if tabs are on top, 'cause then it just moves the window), but nothing shows up in the toolbar, even though it adds the page to the Recently Bookmarked menu.

I tried resetting the customization to default, restarting Firefox in safe mode in case there was some broken add-on, restarting the addons, but after lots of dragging and clicking and coaxing, I still have an empty bookmarks toolbar. I miss my bookmarks. How do I get them back?

Chosen solution

Okay, after some tinkering, I've discovered this.

There are actually three things in that hot mess of a customization menu that are bookmarks-related.

1. "Bookmarks" In the customization menu, this is a star. This one puts a Bookmarks Toolbar up with a black and white icon with "Bookmarks" text beside it, and clicking this shows the drop-down Bookmarks Menu.

2. "Bookmarks" This one looks exactly like the first one in the customization menu (a star), but puts up a black and white icon without text, and clicking this shows the bookmarks sidebar.

3. "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" This one has a different icon in the customization menu, and puts up all of the bookmarked pages that used to be in my bookmarks toolbar, which is exactly what I wanted.

I reckon the customization menu could use a little refinement, but in the meantime, I hope this helps somebody.

The "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" selection is not there when I click on the customization menu. It sounds like it is exactly what I want. Did Mozilla remove it? If so why?????????????????

Oops. I found it. The icon was there, but the menu did NOT properly identify it. I got it fixed and am a happy camper for now.

I've been a FF user for 10 years. To be honest, lately the only thing that keeps me from changing to Chrome is the ability to have my bookmarks down the left hand side. Every time there is an update, something that I like or use a lot changes.

Thanks for this fix, Bookmarks Toolbar full again....:)
