v37.0.2 using heaps more memory/CPU and slow to respond
Hello
Fx performance was super before I upgraded Fx to v37.0.2.
Since I upgraded (about a week ago), every day, I have noticed Fx is getting slower... or is slow.. .. or is struggling..
Few times Fx has even crashed. Before this upgrade, maybe Fx crashed once in 2 months. Now its crashed I think three times within a week. I can see in the console also 3 system diagnostic reports, with event = hang.
Fx has not crashed for a few days but the speed the last 2 days is very poor, hence now logging question.
This is the first upgrade since I started fresh. By "fresh start" I mean I created a brand new yosemite install (not upgraded from mavericks) and fresh new my profile (adding only the critical aspects e.g. bookmarks etc..).
Now I am wishing I had not upgraded. Before the"fresh start" I mention, Fx performance was not good for me for a very long time, so I have had bad experience.
Please note:
>after the upgrade to v37.0.2, I had NO bookmarks, so I imported them from my backup. The import did not bring the icons in, so I still have to run the fx addon to get these (get fav icon).
>consol logs, I can see alot of system diagnostic logs for FX in the last week, then hardly any. Appears to have 2 types (e.g. different names) ,cpu .spin for .cpu from the log it says Event: cpu usage (microstackshots only) for .spin from the log it says Event: spin-lite Duration: 4.90s (process was unresponsive for 2 seconds before sampling)
---
What would be the suggestion to be troubleshoot this particular observation?
--- thankyou

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
While in Safe Mode;
In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.
Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.
Still in Safe Mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Thankyou FredMcD
I tried to do as you requested last night.
1) I went into safe mode and typed about:crashes. There were 3 reports. 1 old one 25/12/2014 this had no BP. and 2 recent, both with BP. I think I often say dont send report, as I am too busy and it takes more time if it crashed when i was doing something important.
I could not send the 3rd, as in safe mode, i could not get hot spotting to my iphone to register. didnt pick the internet connection up for some reason. So I could not see what was in the two BP reports either.
2) I turned off hardware acceleration. I now remember before I installed fresh yosemite, Cor-el had asked me to do as you asked, turn off hardward accelaration. Back then I noticed it had no impact (improvement or stopped things).
yesterday, Fx behaved much more nicely. Was working, i could hear it but still moving fast. So lets see what today is like..
Please post the crash report numbers. And in the future, if Firefox crashes, send the reports. It only takes a moment.
How can we fix it, if we don't know it's broke?
Hello FredMcD, I just discovered i can access them from normal mode. I have sent the 3rd one now. Crash reports take more than a sec to save often. From my prior bad experience, I learnt not to save unless in troubleshoot mode else takes more time when i am simply just trying to use fx and get my work done. So I save once I see a trend of poor performance or something very odd happens. Fx had been working brilliant until upgrade to v37.0.2, so it wasnt until likely a few crashes I would then start to save them. >Are these crash reports stored in DOM? >And do they contain private information? Thankyou

Crash reports only show information about your system, and Firefox.
For example;
Product Firefox Version 37.0.2
OS Mac OS X OS Version 10.10.2 14C109
The report flagged these programs;
AppKit
libsystem_kernel.dylib = ? Word for Mac
CoreFoundation
For some time now, many Macs running Microsoft programs have been crashing. Check with Mac / Microsoft support sites.
Thanks FredMcD for your help.
I dont use Microsoft programs. So is there something in Fx trying to still use it? I created a new FX profile when i did the fresh install of yosemite also and migrated only the critical bits e.g. bookmarks
Before I upgraded to v37.0.3 and 10.10.3 from 10.10.0 and not sure what FX was before upgrade, performance was slick as. this is like 10 days ago now I think.
Before I did the fresh install of yosemite (so when I was on mavericks osx) I had word for mac. But I dont believe I reinstalled it. I cannot find it on my MBP. --- Also I had to turn back on hardware acceleration. As the graphcis on some web pages and in some OSX app (e.g. Console) were going funny.
Now I turned it back on, i have not seen the graphic problem. fingers crossed.

The crash report shows libsystem_kernel.dylib is on your system.
What else is there . . . . . .
Thankyou for stating the obvious. The assumption that is being made is the file in question = word for mac. Word for mac is not installed on MBP.
