Is there an Adobe flash player alternative for Firefox?

I'm not looking for an Adobe update. Since the latest update (to version 19.0.0.207), about 99% of the flash games I play have stopped working, or completely freeze Firefox before they finish loading. And, I'm not asking about Unity - I already have that. I'm asking about a FLASH player. I want a flash player that isn't going to keep updating to versions that I can't use. No, not playing those games isn't an option. I'm saying that because I've seen posts while I was searching for help in the past, on these forums, telling people to just leave the "older" or more "basic" games because they don't like flash, or think other things are better. I don't care about someone's opinions. I just want something that works with Firefox other than Adobe, for those games that Unity doesn't work on.

Adobe owns flash, and there are no other reliable players besides Flash player. That being said, there are a few things you can try to fix Flash. Have you tried a clean install of the flash player? https://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315?start=0&tstart=0

I'd also suggest you see if there is an update for your video drivers, Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

The Flash Player 18.0.0.252 ESR (ESR is based on Flash 18.0) may be a option in meantime as the newer Flash Player 19 branch for web browsers has been a bit problematic for some Flash games.

Do not be surprised if there are updates again soon as even the current versions on above url are potentially affected by critical vulnerabilities reported by Adobe.

I don't like wasting space, so I'll reply here.

  • I tried a clean install. It didn't work. My drivers are up to date, and weren't a problem before the Adobe upgrade. Also, Chrome doesn't use Adobe, but can still be used for games and videos, so there must be something available that can reliably play flash other than Adobe.
  • Java is up to date.
  • As much as I do appreciate a way to get the previous version, I am looking for an alternative to Adobe for Firefox, not a downgrade of Adobe. And going by other topics I've seen posted in these forums, it doesn't look like I'm not the only one.

I have not tried this, but take a look at it; Video WithOut Flash {web link} Watch videos without flash

Just a note about this:

Google has a deal with Adobe to create a special version of the Flash plugin (Pepper Plugin API Flash, or Pepper Flash for short) that Google includes with Chrome. It's still Adobe software.

So instead of using a more stable version of Flash Player (that gets security/stability fixes) from Adobe to replace the Flash Player 19, you would rather try to use some alternative that may or may not even work with Flash games and videos?

Linux users have a bit of an advantage in this case as there is a Freshplayer wrapper plugin that can allow you to run the Pepper Flash (from Chrome) in Firefox and SeaMonkey on Linux.

Do you work for Adobe? Are you related to someone who does? Pushing something that wasn't asked for, then trying to make someone look or feel like a fool for not wanting it, is usually a tactic reserved for employees who want to keep people coming back to get a product. I was asking if there are any alternatives to Adobe's flash player that can be used on Firefox. I was not asking to be pointed to an earlier version. Whether anyone believes an alternative is stable or not is irrelevant. If you can't help, or don't know of an alternative that will work, answering with anything other than a "No" is not helpful.
