Revert address bar "enter" behaviour to that of firefox 41

I've updated from firefox 41 to 43, and the first annoying thing I noticed is that I have to press one more key to visit a frequently visited site.

In the 41st version if I typed "e" in the address bar, the first option in the auto-suggest drop down was "http://www.ebay.com/" and was already selected, so pressing "enter" I was navigated to the specified site.

In the 43rd version when I type "e" in the address bar, the first option is "e - Search with Google", and pressing "enter" obviously performs a google search. Thus I need to press an Arrow Down key before I can navigate to the desired site. I don't like this behavior, because it slows me down by as much as 33%. Setting keyword.enabled to false does not bring the auto-suggested URL to the top either.

How can I fix this (without patching firefox or switching a browser)?

That "Search with ..." is new feature in Firefox 43. To turn it off do this:

  1. Go to about:config in Firefox (typed in the URL bar)
  2. Click the I'll be careful button
  3. Locate the browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete boolean pref
  4. Double-click to change the value to false

Note: You may need to restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.

Do as above. When the list comes up, highlight what you DON'T want using the arrow buttons, and press Delete.
