I am trying to set up account and am told I need to enable cookies and storage. I have done this:

Check cookie settings

Firefox can be set to not accept cookies. To turn on cookies:

Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Options.
   Select the Privacy panel.
Set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history.
   customhistory38
Make sure Accept cookies from sites is check marked.
Make sure Accept third party cookies is set to Always.
Disabling third party cookies can cause problems with some websites. Always accept third party cookies to rule it out as a cause for your problem.
   Click Exceptions….
Make sure the site you're trying to access isn't listed.
If it is listed, click on its entry, then click Remove Site.
Close the about:preferences page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.

I do not understand what this means "close the about preferences page" So my settings are not being changed

Hi, I agree that can be confusing! about:preferences is simply the URL of the Options tab/page, so all you have to do to save your settings is to close the tab.

More about cookies etc - Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

I close the tab. Reopen and see that changes haven't been saved.

I've carried out reset and still can't save settings. I don't understand the rest of the article.

I am trying to create a sync account. The login doesn't accept my password so I'm trying to get a new password. I'm told Cookies and Local storage are required and I should enable these in my browser.

I can't enable cookies (won't save) and don't know what local storage is or how to enable it.

I just got another email and was able to reset my password and start Firefox Sync. Don't know how ... but thanks anyway!
