so this is the order of what ive done-

-had 20 pinned tabs open -opened new window, closed normal window with 20 pinned tabs, cus they were giving some heavy CPU usage -closed the other normal window after opening private one, browsed privately with no pinned tabs -got back to normal browsing after checking what affects CPU, all pinned tabs are gone, restoring last session isn't available

I need help as they were really random ones, not some from previous session that I can just find in the history bar.. and im pretty sure its from my end cus removing session from a window to store another sounds quite primitive for advanced programming, so what can i do about it? is there a way to open JQ/BAK files to see whats stored in there or something like that? or simply restore session

things to exclude -my history is set to remember forever -i didn't clear any browser cache or sessions, simply closed it

Hi! Sorry for the late reply! I got really busy. I think I have some good news for you. :)

If you have the Previous Versions feature enabled on your Windows 7 pc, we can very likely recover a backup of all your tabs! :D

Please read this detailed reply I wrote about how to do that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1089515#answer-795701

Please let me know if it worked! Thanks

Hi nidhalpasap, Sorry you are having problems. Just thinking of a couple of sensible precautions & tips

  1. Backup your Firefox profile before trying to use Windows restore previous versions feature. See:
Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
  2. Create a new profile. Accept the suggested location, and give it a short name such as test-2016-001 . Do not try deleting or renaming any profiles you create, it is too easy to make mistakes.

Also note Firefox stores quite extensive session restore information itself now. For instance one from the time of the last Firefox update

  • See Mozilla launches improved Session Restore in Firefox 33 http://www.ghacks.net/2014/06/27/mozilla-launches-improved-session-restore-firefox-33/
The new system offers additional means to recover sessions manually as well. Previously you had to rely on the backup file only to restore a session if the main sessionrestore file was corrupt. Now, you can also try recovery.js or upgrade.js, both of which are usually created farther back in time making it more likely that they are not corrupt as well.

It is probably also a good idea to bookmark important open tabs or pinned tabs instead of just relying on them being preserved.

Firefox Sync may be worth trying, in future if you have multiple devices but please note it is not intended to be a cloud backup service. Any backups are what are on your other devices, not what may be on the server.

In private browsing no data is stored to disk, so you can't keep pinned tabs that you opened in the PB mode window. You should leave at least one normal window open with the pinned tabs if you want to preserve them.
