Firefox v45 wants me to allow it to go full-screen; how do I PERMANENTLY end this nonsense?

When I try to open a video, web cam, etc., in any web site, and then select full-screen, Firefox (45.0 Mac) insists on asking me to Allow it to do so. I just TOLD it to do so. I have already tried the usual "solutions" ... adding full-screen-api.approval-required and setting it to false, and setting full-screen-api.warning.timeout to 0 (I set the timeout directly above it to 0 as well).

These don't seem to do anything at all. Firefox keeps asking me to approve what I just told it to do.

How, in Firefox v45.0 (Mac OS X Lion) do I permanently get rid of that stupid Allow popup? This thing is not only stupid, it's a waste of my time, and is annoying enough that if I can't get one setting (or group of settings) in either preferences or in about:config to disable this, and after that, never see it again at all, Firefox might not survive as a browser here.... How do I get this bug eliminated?

Hmm, several versions ago, Firefox should have switched from asking for authorization to displaying a notice that Firefox had gone full screen and mentioning a keyboard shortcut to escape from it. Are you getting the new notice or the old one?

I'm getting the very large one with two options: Cancel and Allow. Btw, one minor correction: it's Firefox version 45.0.1. I can't even imagine why it wold ask me that in the first place. I can't find the option to stop it in Preferences, and the "solutions" in about:config don't change anything that I can see.

Usually if Firefox is going full screen in response to a user action such as clicking a button, it's allowed automatically. However, you could try allowing ALL full screen requests regardless of the method of initiation:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste full-s and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the full-screen-api.allow-trusted-requests-only preference to switch it from true (user-initiation required) to false (script-initiation permitted)

By the way, your Question Details > More System Details lists:

  • Conduit Plugin 1_0_0

The Conduit name often arises in the context of unwanted add-ons. If this was installed by "that" Conduit, you might also check for sketchy extensions. Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Considering disabling or removing anything you don't recognize or remember installing, or anything that doesn't look like you'll be using it soon. All extensions are optional; none are included with Firefox.

Already done ... (forgot to mention that ... chemobrain will do that). It didn't change anything, either.

Is there a way to remove the disabled ones? I'm going to do a restart, and see if all of that helps.

Nope. Still asks. Repeatedly. Same tab, same site, same video, and is asks every time I try to go to full-screen. Was there ever a real purpose for this, or is it just a long-term bug? Just curious.

Btw. while I'm thinking about it, does anyone on here know if there is an extension to get Opera-style tab groups? Or can I do that now (i.e., hover one tab bar over another until the lower one darkens, then release ... new tab group established. It then has a triangle (more or less) button on the right that ( > ) opens or ( < ) closes thee group. The site in these tabs are still active, just not taking up space in the tab bar. Anything like that for Firefox?

Thanks,

Hi Jim, I've never seen Firefox 45 ask for permission to go full screen on the built-in HTML5 video player. I'm pretty sure we've exhausted all the applicable preferences for that player.

Is it possible that this problem is coming from a plugin? Usually if you call up the context menu on the video (right-click or Ctrl+click the player), you can assess from that menu whether it is playing in Firefox's native video player or in a plugin because plugin context menus are typically short and list the plugin name. If it's a plugin, which one is it?

Regarding tab groups, there is no longer a built-in feature for that. You can install this extension to add it (back) to Firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-groups-panorama/

That said, I don't know whether it has the mouse selection feature you described.

I had forgotten about that one. I tried it before, and it's not even similar. The extension I'm searching for leaves the tabs in the tab bar, they just overlap in the tab stack (not group), with the last-viewed tab being on top and visible. I had to re-disable tab groups again, though, because it seems to be incompatible with the main tabs extension I use, Tab Mix Plus.

I'm starting to think something else is wrong here. My configuration for the navigation bar just vanished---I have back/forward, but no reload, stop, restart, spacers, etc. that I added. And they're not back in the "box" of icons for stuff like that to add (in Customize). But I'm out of time, at least for now, to work on trying to figure this out. Need to be somewhere soon, and I'm still not ready.

Thanks,
