ever since the newest update firefox has been unusable on my windows 10 device. A single tab will consume massive amounts of CPU and have multiple task entries

running on a windows 10 tablet. prior version of firefox worked and was stable even with 20 tabs open. Updated version of firefox eats up tons of CPU and memory with just a single tab open. That single tab is often unresponsive and/or sluggish. Trying to open a second tab makes the whole program freeze. A single tab open of firefox is now showing 5 to 6 open processes compared to the old version only having 1 process per window (regardless of how many tabs were open in said window).

I had the same problem. I uninstalled v 57 Quantum, downloaded v 56.0.2, installed it, deactivated automatic updates and now everything is fine.
