Hi,

Recently I have visited https://amiunique.org/ and I have see that Firefox provides user agent info on every site I'm visiting. Would like to ask if it is possible to restrict Firefox of providing this info. Also when I use Tor on https://amiunique.org/ the user agent info that the browser provides are fake. Can I do that on Firefox?

Regards

There is "Resist Fingerprinting" that modifies some settings including the user agent, but some websites like the Addons website won't work properly if you modify the user agent and might complain that your Firefox version isn't compatible. If you would enable this spoofing feature then you would have to be aware of possible issues and disable such a feature. There is a way to only modify the user agent, but that should be used with care as well.

You can tell Firefox to show whatever you want for the user agent, but honestly, the best thing to do is to keep your Firefox up to date, and use the default user agent. The reason being, if you switch to something else, it will make you look unusual, and if you're worried about being tracked, it's best to just blend into the crowd. Hundreds of millions of people use Firefox with that same exact user agent you have, so if you use the default one, nobody will ever know the difference.

You can enable tracking protection however, which will make websites have a harder time following you: What happened to Tracking Protection?

Thank you for your answer but if I don't think you can blend in the crowd. Please check https://amiunique.org/ it's very interesting site. How can I tell Firefox to show different user agent?

What I'm saying is that setting a non default user agent will actually make you more unique. It defeats the purpose

Yes I understand that but I think if I change the info about Firefox version and operating system I will become much less unique. I think Tor on purpose gives the same Firefox version and operating system info to all the users so they are not unique

You user agent is already very generic "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0" so I'd suggest leaving it

Firefox version 62 on windows 10 is less unique than Firefox v52 on windows NT 6.1. Would like to change it to the second one

Firefox 61 is the less unique, I'm not sure where they are getting their stats, but they are wrong. 90% of users run Firefox 61. only about 2% run 52. Tell me what's more unique :)

Maybe has to do with the operating system or maybe they are wrong.

Windows 10 is still just as popular as Windows 7. I'd suggest just leaving it. Because also, you set it, forget it, and then you're the only one in the world with that User Agent.

No good comes of changing your user agent, and the privacy implications are WAY overblown

Probably you are right. amiunique.org has statistics from all the users ever visited the site (even if it was 2 years ago). Now the stats are obsolete.
