Hello,

I reinstalled TB today, Oct 9th and the emails dowloaded were only from the Oct 1st. Does anyone know how to download emails older than that? There are a few important emails from my old Sent folder that I need. I'm using POP.

On the other hand, I have backup files of the account but I don't want to restore them since the Inbox folder of the backup was corrupted. This makes me wonder, if I could restore only specific folder from the backup files.

Can anyone help me?

re :There are a few important emails from my old Sent folder that I need. I'm using POP......restore only specific folder from the backup files

Use this addon extension: ImportExportTools

How to install addon:

You will need to restart Thunderbird once it is installed.

Suggest you rename the backup 'Sent' mbox file to say eg: 'Old Sent', so that it does not get confused with current 'Sent' folder or overwrite it. Note : mbox files have no extension and they contain emails.

  • Right click on pop mail account in Folder Pane and select 'ImportExportTools > 'Import mbox file'

In 'Files mbox import' window: Select the first option - usually auto selected.

  • 'Import directly one or more mbox files'
  • click on 'OK'
  • locate and select the backup 'Old Sent' mbox file.
  • click on 'Open'

It should appear as a folder in your pop mail acount.

re :emails dowloaded were only from the Oct 1st. Does anyone know how to download emails older than that? Pop mail accounts can only see and download emails that are in the server Inbox. But there are a some servers that can be awkward about this because they have already marked them as 'popped'. Gmail have a way of allowing you some access access to redownload emails that were previously downloaded.

I've located some info on this: Gmail will download in batches, not necessarilly all at once.

check this in webmail account: Enable POP for all mail In Gmail you can find these option in the Forwarding and POP/IMAP section;

  • Click on the gear icon in the top right corner next to your name and choose; Mail settings
  • Click on; Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  • Enable the option: Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)

  • Emails aren't downloading correctly

How do I download mail to multiple POP clients?

To access your messages with multiple POP clients, use recent mode in every client to make sure that all messages are made available, rather than only to the first client to access new mail. Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.

To enable Recent mode, replace 'username@gmail.com' in the Username field of your POP client settings with 'recent:username@gmail.com' and ensure that the Leave messages on server option in your POP client is enabled.

Info on Outlook.com server Outlook.com may have put them into a 'Pop' folder, which could be located in the 'Deleted' folder As a pop mail account can only see 'Inbox', you would need to access the webmail account and move emails from 'Pop' folder back into the 'Inbox' and use 'GetMessages' in Thunderbird to download them. Suggest you check your webmail settings for pop and also in Thunderbird Account Settings, make sure you selected to leave messages on server.
