Have been using Eudora for years. Switching to Thunderbird and lost all contacts in eudora address book. Fortunately have a .csv file. How to retrieve them to eudora for now and then also add them to thunderbird.

basically Eudora import died a long time ago and was disabled because it caused crashes in the program. Importing from Eudora, including contacts is rather simple in version 3 where on first run you are asked if you want to import from Eudora.

Having transferred my contacts from either a WordPerfect data file or a Eudora (or other) .csv ("comma separated values"), one must only need match fields, which is not difficult in Thunderbird. It just takes a bit of time to match a left column field name with the correct right column field name. Be patient, and you will have good results!

Mark, not sure what "match fields" means. The .csv file show the nickname in column A and the address in Col B. (plus other info I have saved in other columns) Also got any ideas on how to get the contacts back into eudora?

Eudora is dead. your lucky it limped along this long.

How importing Eudora to Thunderbird could cause a loss of anything in Eudora is beyond me as Thunderbird does nothing but read the datafiles. it does not update, manipulate or otherwise change anything in the Eudora data.

I have a blog posting where I talk about CSV files here https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2013/03/importing-csv-files.html

When you import, you must match the field names in your CSV file (the field manes are on the first line of the CSV) to those expected by Thunderbird. It is easier to change your field names to match what Thunderbird wants in a spreadsheet than it is to fiddle in the import wizard. It is fiddly to say the least.

Matt, You are correct about Eudora, I have been very lucky being too stubborn to change what was once a good thing.. Will certainly check out your blog. Thanks

what version of Thunderbird are you using for your import. We all have personal favorites. But Eudora OSE was based on Thunderbird 3 so I figure it is probably a good choice.

If you have not seen it. these instruction on Eudora import are fairly good if dated. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_from_Eudora_(Thunderbird)

Thank you Matt, - Using TB 64.0b2 Have not figured out where all comfy Eudora features are in TB, but getting used to it. After numerous attempts at transferring contacts figured out an easy way to clean up my contacts list and get them into TB by sending an explanatory email to most existing contacts about new TB program and asking for a response. That allowed 'collected addresses' in TB to do it's magic for me. Don't miss any contact that did not respond. lol Not so technical, but worked. Maybe easy for others also. Thanks again.
