I am migrating mail service from my University to Google's G suite (both IMAP), and I can't get password verification to work.
My university (U.W. Seattle) recently shifted from a locally supported (IMAP) mail service to the use of Google's G suite and gmail. Importantly, my email address remains the same <gennari@uw.edu>. So I'm migrating all of my mail files from UW to Gmail. When I view my UW mail from the gmail web pages, I enter my uw account name, and then Google fires up a separate web page that queries the UW system for my account name and password. Importantly, this means that neither Google nor Gmail knows my password. After the UW verifies my account, the Gmail web pages let me see my UW mail.
I've always used Thunderbird to read email (which I love) and I plan to continue using it with this new set up for my UW mail. I can certainly use Thunderbird to read and manage other gmail accounts (I have a non-work john.gennari@gmail, which works just fine in Thunderbird). The issue is that during set up for my UW mail, I get an error (see image) saying that the configuration could not be verified -- is the username or password correct? This makes some sense, since I don't think that Gmail knows my password. I think I need some way, within Thunderbird, of telling Gmail to ask UW to confirm my username/password.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The User name should be the full email address, and authentication is usually set to OAuth2. As usual, 'allow less secure apps' in gmail settings, and allow cookies from *.google.com.

Thanks so much! With the above, I was able (eventually) to get it working.
