How can I archive emails while offline?

The primary reason I started using Thunderbird recently was so that I could read and respond to email while offline because I have intermittent internet access. I currently access email via IMAP and have set account settings to synchronize all folders locally. This setup has enabled me to compose and delete emails while offline. However, I am not able to archive them while offline. I believe this is because archiving in Thunderbird involves moving the email into a different folder, and this event is not queued.

I can imagine several methods which might allow me to archive emails while offline:

  1. Move my archive folder to a local folder.
  2. Move both my inbox and archive folder to local folders.
  3. Change a setting I don't yet know about.
  4. Install an addon I don't yet know about.

Which of these methods will allow me to archive emails while offline?

Hello there again.

You can archive everything on your computer machine for thunderbird. But you will have to go online to start thunderbird? What do you mean exactly? Try to explain.

Hello there again.

Thunderbird provides the ability to archive messages - that is, to move them from the default folders to archive folders without deleting the messages altogether. This makes it easy to organize archives or move them to a backup device, and keep the Inbox clean. Messages can only be archived manually, not automatically. Archived messages are indexed by Thunderbird's search.

-How do I archive my messages?-

To archive one or more messages, select the desired messages and then click on the Archive button, or simply press A on your keyboard. It is recommended that you not select more than 2,000 messages at a time.

Configure archive folder structure You can define the structure of the archive folder by clicking the Archive options... button. Then you can choose if you want to use a single folder for all your archives, or define some sub-folders, as indicated in the animation below:

Use A good antivirus. Greetings Firefoxvolunteer.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to reproduce my problem right now. Before, when was offline, opened an email, and clicked "Archive", then nothing would happen. The message would continue to sit in the Inbox.

My best guess is that the archives designated account folder (eg. "Archives/2019") hadn't been created yet, and Thunderbird was unable to create this folder while offline. Another possibility was that I was experiencing the problem when my internet connection cut out, but Thunderbird was not set to "Work Offline".

Thanks for trying to help.
