How do I get the tabs to come up with my login already logged on?

more options

I have the tabs to open I use the most each time I open Firefox. The problem is it does not remember the passwords to each of the sites and I have to reenter them. Is there a way of setting an option to do this for me? I have clicked Options - Privacy & Security - Logins & Passwords - Saved Logins and nothing is happening. I suspect I am missing a step. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi ac9gk, what method are you using to load those tabs?

  • Multiple Home pages
  • "Restore Previous Session"
  • Pinned tabs

When Firefox's built-in password manager is enabled, when you fill the login form on a site, Firefox should ask whether you want to save it. Is that happening?

When you return to the site, Firefox should autofill the form (if it's an HTTPS address) and you can submit the login.

If you want to keep a session open with a site and not have to go through a login form, you usually need to instruct the site to set a persistent cookie (commonly, check a box to keep you logged in on the login form) and then make sure you don't have Firefox set to clear persistent cookies at shutdown.

Restored previous session pages may be "static" in the sense that they often are brought back from the cache and may not reflect the current status of your session on the site. It might appear that you are logged in, but if the session cookies is not present, you will need to log in again.

I use Tabs to load these pages. Under Home - New Windows and Tabs - Use Current Pages. Does this help? Just got my internet back on.

Hi ac9gk, thanks. So most likely Firefox has to load those fresh at each startup.

Do you have the Password Manager turned on? It's the checkbox to the left of the Saved Logins button labeled "Ask to save logins and passwords for websites".

Note: If it is impossible to turn on:

  • That sometimes is caused by security software suites that have their own password manager.
  • That can be caused by setting Firefox to "Never remember history" or "Always use private browsing mode"
