My Ubuntu 16.04 box can't startup in Ubuntu.

I can access the folders on the computer using a LiveUSB.

  - Ubuntu Linux 16.04 Installed OS
  - Macbook Pro (mid 2009) OS X El Capitan

Could you try the path(s) in this article -- if it shows the wrong OS, expand the Editing Tools in the left column and use the OS selector there to switch the article to Linux:

This one also could be relevant: Recover important data from an old profile

In Linux the main Firefox profile folder that stores personal data is in the hidden "~/.mozilla/firefox/" folder. The secondary location in "~/.cache/mozilla/firefox/" is used for the disk cache and isn't important.

Hi 813bruce, did all the other files get copied, it just skipped one? I don't know what a symlink would be used for in the profile folder. ??

more options

Yes

As far as I can tell, everything else copied. The only error window was the one about asking to skip that file.

It is a file called "lock" in .mozilla/firefox/nkhyqhk9.default

Thanks for your help guys

It's probably better NOT to copy the lock file, so I guess you can declare success.
