Emails disappearing when moved to INBOX folder

I'm using Thunderbird on Linux for many years. Currently version 78.11.0 but the problem lasts for years. Every time a message is moved to the INBOX folder, it disappears. This can be by drag&drop from another folder or from a filter rule or from simply using Ctrl-Z to undo a "delete" command (this used to work years ago).

I am hosting my own email server so I could check (with grep) that the messages completely vanish (I place a special text that doesn't exist elsewhere and that text can't be found). It's not in the "deleted" or "spam" folder, it is just deleted and cannot be found.

I also tried with a gmail account, in case this was an issue with my email server but it's exactly the same problem : anything I move to the INBOX folder disappears.

I tried with different email clients (kmail and RainLoop) and it works there so the problem *IS* from thunderbird.

What (config) file(s) should I link here for you to see and help me get rid of that problem ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Could you please do the following?

  1. Open the menu Fx57Menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then click Copy text to Clipboard.
  2. Try pasting it into a reply here on the forum, but if that fails go to https://pastebin.com, paste the info from your Troubleshooting Information page, use the Create New Paste button to create a page containing your info, then copy the resulting URL (address) of the page created. and then open a reply to this post, and paste the link to your troubleshooting information.

Open the error console (Ctrl+Shift+J) clear it and then try the move. What error appear in the error console (the right click menu makes that much easier to copy here)

Thanks Matt,

Here is my troubleshooting information :

https://pastebin.com/yVzUryFi

After moving (and vanishing) there is no error message. I also tried in "safe mode".

ok, we have or have had almost 200 accounts in that profile. so which of the account is actually causing the issue.

Are you using the all folder view or something else like unified?

My main account is "account1826" but the problem also happens on both googlemail accounts (account7 and account1650) and on the "free.fr" account (account1838). In fact, I haven't tested everything but I think the problem occurs on all accounts.

I am not using "all folders" or "unified" or such, I like to keep things separated.

I just tried creating a new profile with the same data as "account1826" and here things seem to work perfectly (moving and delete + ctrl-Z). So the issue seems to be profile-related.
