I didn't have a recovery key and my old computer had crashed and I set up a new computer. Now I can't restore my account. In the past you sent an email to reset passwords. This is totally crazy, plus even though a back up was made of my old computer nothing was backed from firefox. I've lost 3 years of bookmarks and all my passwords

Unfortunately in your situation, you cannot recover anything. I am very sorry.

Is the hard drive in the old computer still working and did you try to build this drive in an enclosure or adapter that allows to access this drive via USB ?

My husband backed it up on a thumb drive and sadly he reformatted the old computer before I figured out the problem. He always waits before reformatting but this time he didn't.

After Years of using Firefox and if this is the way they are going to handle things I'm not going to use them any more, and follow my husbands advice and use chrome from here on out. I just can't afford to have this happen again, losing all this info is setting me back. It's a very poorly thought out system.
