Since last update Thunderbird spins and is unresponsive for over 20 seconds.

I have my Thunderbird profile on a NAS drive and, since the last update, when an email comes in, the wi-fi traffic goes up significantly and Thunderbird is unresponsive for over 20 seconds and will sometimes crash. I can see the wi-fi sends jump to between 10mps and 17mps. During this time the notification box stays up and other processes are slow to respond. When Thunderbird stops spinning I see a corresponding drop in wi-fi traffic. Does the new version of Thunderbird do some kind of automatic house cleaning when an email comes in or something? This did not happen before the last Thunderbird update.

It appears this happens periodically even if a new email isn't coming in.

Given Thunderbird profile is probably in the Gigabyte range of size, and file opens on the NAS are transferred over the network to the local machine, edited, and transmitted back for storage, it might work ok on a wired NAS, but using Wifi you are probably saturating the network bandwidth.

Thanks Matt. This is something I am aware of but, since I was having no issues before the last update, I was just wondering if some new automatic housekeeping was added that runs the message queues periodically adding to the network traffic. I moved my profile to a NAS drive because a crash resulted in my losing all my local folders. If the new process isn't something that can be turned off then I probably will have to move the profiles back to my system and schedule frequent backups.
