I'm using an old, no longer supported add-on called Reminderfox that saves its contents in ics format. I used to be able to import this to Google calendar and Thunderbird but for some reason they and also Microsoft Outlook won't now import the ics file. They either give an error as in Thunderbird's case (error, no items to import) or just remain greyed out so I can't do anything else as in Google and Microsoft's case. I have submitted the ics file to an ics verifier online and it says there are no errors. I have also looked at the file in notepad and can't see any obvious errors, although I'm not fully conversant with the ics format. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be or anything else I can try please?

To get this to work I had to remove all lines that contained "LAST-MODIFIED". After that it imported to Thunderbird no problem. Might help someone.

Maybe this will help? I stripped every event except one from the ics file and left everything else as it is. This ics file also does not import to Thunderbird. It gives error "no importable items found in the file".

This didn't work for me, same issue, exporting calendar from TB 102.15.1 on windows 10 pro to another TB 102.15.1 Windows 10 Pro. I've tried all the same fixes that people tried, removing these "LAST-MODIFIED" lines, I tried importing the file into google calendar and that failed, it failed importing into outlook, this is the second time trying to migrate a profile calendar over from one area to another where the system failed.
