Spent 3 months modifying google and firefox then moved to a new computer, FF didn't install from other hard drive. Now there's sponsored links, ads and annoying ff box below search box and history won't go away either. Is this another 3 month project?

Firefox 4 uses a new build-in home page called about:home with a Google search bar on it.
That about:home page only shows some snippets and has a button to restore the previous session if applicable.

If you want a home page without the Restore Previous Session then set another page as the home page like www.google.com or www.google.com/firefox used in Firefox 3 versions.

To reset your home page, do the following.

  • Go to the site you want to set as your homepage, for example, google.com

  • Click the orange Firefox button and go to Options | Options | General.

  • Make sure it says "Show My Homepage" in the first dropdown menu.

  • Click the button called "Use Current Pages" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

I don't understand what Mozilla is trying to achieve with the popups either.

To block ads, sponsored links etc., elsewhere, install Adblock Plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

It's also a good idea to subscribe to "Malware Domains" using ABP too, link at the foot of their subscriptions page: https://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions
