If I type an url and hit enter it doesn't find that web site, I have to click the green arrow at the end of the url box.

If I choose an url from the url box dropdown it won't find the web site I have to click the green arrow at the end of the url box for that to happen.

Had the same problem. Followed advise and traced my problem to "AVG Safe Search 10.0.0.1390". Normally, this would have disabled (not compatible with 6), but I also have Add On Compatability Reporter 0.8.7 allowing it to still run.

Disable AVG Safe Search, and all was OK again (for me)

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
