Firefox will not save login/password for hotmail.com. I have followed the instructions on how to make firefox remember but I continue to have to manually enter the information. What am I doing incorrectly?
I've checked the settings for remembering the data, cleared exceptions/cookies/history/etc. No matter what I do firefox continues to not remember the login/password information for hotmail.com while all other sites login info is remembered.

Firefox will remember passwords by default. You may have disabled this feature, or told Firefox to never remember passwords for a particular site.
1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options. 2. Select the Security panel. 3. If it isn't already check marked, check Remember passwords for sites. 4. To the right of Remember passwords for sites, click the Exceptions... button . 5. Make sure that the site you're trying to log in to isn't in the list. If it is, select the entry and click Remove. 6. Click Close. 7. Click OK to close the Options window.
Now that you've configured Firefox to remember passwords, try logging in to the site again.
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.
- Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
I've tried this several times - I don't know why.... I don't know why I think the result for doing the same thing multiple times would have a different outcome!
It sounds like I need to delete the cookie files that are stored on my computer (cookies.sqlite and permissions.sqlite). I found them on my computer but before I delete them I have two more questions.
1. if/when I delete these files do I loose all my other saved passwords for other websites? 2. there are two other cookie files (cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal). These file extensions are not mentioned in the info about how to delete cookies. Do I need to do anything with these files?
You need to remove all cookies files if you want to recover from errors with cookies.
The other files are used to make sure that it is possible to undo actions in case something went wrong and that last request didn't finish.
WAL: Write-Ahead Logging Shm: Shared Memory files
You won't lose passwords stored in the Password Manager if you delete the cookies files, but you will have to sign on again to websites that remember you automatically because that remember me cookie will get lost.
I am giving up! I seemed destined to retype my login and password for as long as I have this laptop. I have repeated the following and the problem persists:
- followed the initial instructions provided by ThereThayGuy
- followed the instructions provided by cor-el
You can't make Firefox remember the password for Hotmail (login.live.com). That site uses JavaScript to create the login form and doesn't work with the Firefox Password Manager (bug 518516). You can only use form fill to remember the user name. You can make it work with a bookmarklet if sites use autocomplete=off, but that isn't the case on live.login.
Never have this problem again. Never click forgot password again!
