After a recent update tabs now require precise mouse movement horizontally when repositioning them, can this be reversed, I am physically not capable of precise movement like this

I use a trackball, as I can't use a mouse very well. I like to reposition my tabs along the toolbar for example when comparing components from different suppliers. previously I could simply click and drag the tab to be moved shoot my trackball to where i wanted to place the tab, without regard for precision of movement, then release the mouse button to drop the tab. Recently this behaviour has changed I have to be very precsie with my movement (which is extremely difficult due to neurological issues). It appears that I have to keep the mouse pointer between the top and bottom limits of the tabs or the tab is 'lost'. It is then necessary to click on another tab before the original tab can be picked up and another move attempt made. This can sometimes take me 5-6 attempts, and the more tabs open, of course the further to move the harder this becomes.
