After customizing the main toolbar (ie, adding/removing icons like New Tab, Print, Separator, etc.) it's only good until I close Firefox. Upon reopening all my customizations are gone and the toolbar is back to its default.

Thanks much for your assistance. The "Preferences are Not Saved" article had a link to a "Resetting Preferences" article. From that I started in Safe Mode and told it to Reset all Preferences to Firefox Defaults. Figured that was extreme but would be worth it. Turns out not only did that do the trick but it also didn't alter/remove everything so it was a simple matter to go in and make a few minor changes to get things back to where I wanted them. So THANK YOU very much!!

Hi diskeed,

You might want to look at the article How to fix preferences that won't save. It sounds like there could be an issue writing to the pref.js file or the file might be corrupt. The article I linked you to should help!

Hopefully this helps!
