Why is Save As box for downloading files opening to random directories?
In version 9 when I performed a download of a file the save as dialog box would prompt me for a save location per my settings. I would select a directory to save it to and save the file. When I saved another file from the same site it would default to the same directory I previously saved to. Made things much faster. Since the upgrade to version 10.0.1 the directory the save as dialog box opens up to is completely random. It does not matter if it is from the same site, same page or the same site different page. I cannot get the dialog box to open in the same (previously used) directory. This is incredibly annoying, more time time consuming, and a definite downgrade from every previous version. What can be done?

Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.
Firefox 11 will have a workaround by providing a pref (browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite) to disable this feature.
Bug 536503 - Last downloaded-to directory should be remembered on a site-by-site basis Bug 702748 - Use a pref for disabling per-site remembering of download directory

I have version 11, where do I find this selection?
browser.download.lastdir.savePerSite ?
in about:config
see: browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite because maybe you only have browser.download.lastDir and you must modify this.
thank you
The browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref doesn't exist by default and you need to create a new Boolean pref with that name and set the value to false.
You probably also need to clear the "Site Preferences" via Clear Recent History to remove already stored file location data.
