I want to add application shortcuts to my bookmarks toolbar ala IE where i can just drop the link into the Favorites bar. Any suggestions? Whether its a shortcut or a direct link to the program FF wants to safe the file.

That's not a built-in feature. Over the years, there have been add-ons to launch links in external applications, or maybe even just to mimic IE's feature.
