I can't find a way to block cookies from the Bank of America website. Is there a way to still do this?

Previously, when accessing the Bank of America Online Banking website I could keep them from placing cookies on my machine. Following your online instructions I can only deal with history. How can I block cookies with the current version of Firefox running on a Mac?

You're right there - neither "Block cookies" nor "Allow just for this session" lets me into the BofA website. However, Safari still shows all the security boxes, including one that says it doesn't recognize my computer and asks security questions, just like Firefox did before.

Permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab can be managed here:

  • Tools > Page Info > Permissions

You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page.

Do you have a account on the Bank of America website? If so, I wouldn't recommend blocking cookies from this site b/c when you try to login, you will most likely get a failed to login error message and be taken to a page saying your cookies are disabled and to please enable them.

If you are just wanting to manage the cookies and do not know your way around Firefox's Privacy settings then try this:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/toggle-cookies/

This is for people who like to keep cookies disabled unless it breaks a site, never want permanent third party cookies, and probably have the "Ask me every time" option selected.

I installed the add-on, and was told it was installed, but when I go to the Bank of America site I can't find an icon to toggle. If I could find it, it sounds like what I'm looking for.

However, I have gone to the Permissions list for the BofA website and with either "Allow cookies just for this session" or "Don't allow cookies" makes it impossible to get into the site.

The frustrating thing is that I can use Safari and ALL of the security boxes show up, just as they used to do with Firefox.

FWIW to anyone, I finally got the problem resolved with the help of a very patient and resolute BofA tech support person. I'm still not sure what the "smoking gun solution" was because, after trying a dozen or more fixes, we signed off having agreed that I'd just have to uninstall and re-install Firefox. However, after closing and re-opening Firefox I discovered that the fix had been made.

I'm now able to run the BofA site with the "Allow cookies for this session only" setting.
