tools->addons->'check for plugin updates' shows: "research" vs. "update" for non-obscure plugins (ie: MS Office, Sharepoint, & Acrobat PLUGINS) WAS: How to disable plugin check on Firefox? I updated all my plugins but there are some showing as gray "Research?"

Those plugins are not currently in the database for Mozilla's plugins. They should be updated either from where you first got the software or from within the desktop application (e.g. MS Office). Hope this helps!

Only a limited number of plugins of commonly use plugins is recognized by the plugin check website.
The plugins that aren't recognized need to be checked manually, usually you can do that by visiting a test page of their website

Note that even for plugins that are detected you may still not see the correct advice as it can take some time to update the database and also OS restrictions may not be taken into account.
So if you are in doubt then best is to check the website of a plugin to see if there is an update or see if the software that added this plugin has an update.

Would/could either of you perhaps kindly send the URL where the supported plugins are listed, so I may cross-verify?

It would be helpful to know so I can take appropriate measures to contact the vendors or garner support in getting updates for these distributable, as they are SUCH likely to be found ones for other Moz-FF users.thx
