I inherited a laptop using Vista, which has Firefox vs.27.0.1. I set up a new user profile for Firefox, using my name. When I download a file, it shows up in the download section (the arrow at the top right of the address bar) When I click on it and open it...another Users information appears c:/USERS/ADAM/DESKTOP/DESKTOP The file tries to open and then disappears. How to I change my setup so that I can download AND open files without them being blocked by the original user?

If the other user profile is not needed, remove it. Then see if the problem is still there.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
