Dotted line are a pain and I am sorry to hear that this is really frustrating, because it is. For general settings not changing if you have already tried to change the settings can be done here: Fix printing problems in Firefox (if print.printer is no longer there you can add it back on the about:config page by right clicking on the page and creating the new field and leaving the second one blank)
