Why don't deleted msgs no longer go to TRASH, they disappear?
I have a Trash folder and all Deleted messages used to go there. Just noticed that the trash file counts (read and unread) have not been changing because, Deleted messages disappear. Search does not find them, a newly loaded Extension "Recover Deleted Messages 0.4" does not find them. 'Control Z' and the Edit tab's 'Undo Delete Message' do work, if I use them immediately. My email account is through Gmail. The Server is 'imap.googlemail.com' and has not changed for years. I have not changed any settings in my Thunderbird world. The only changes in my email world, that I am aware of, are the Updates from Mozilla. I have a whole bunch of Local folders including their own Trash folder. Everything in the local world seems to function properly. I NORMALLY DO NOT LOG DIRECTLY INTO GMAIL. BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, I DID. SEEMS THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED ABOVE EXISTS IN GMAIL. AND FOR MORE CONFUSION TO ME, IN GMAIL I HAVE TWO TRASH FOLDERS. ONE IS "imap trash" WHICH IS WHAT I SEE IN TBIRD. THE OTHER IS "trash" AND IT HAS ALL MY MISSING DELETED EMAILS AND I DO NOT SEE THIS ONE IN TBIRD. MAYBE SOMETHING IN GMAIL HAS CHANGED? I am tired and as a result of what I found in the Gmail direct login, I am confused and have to stop for now. Any suggestions will be appreciated. John R.K.

MATT, THANKS BIG TIME! PROBLEM SOLVED! FYI, In Tbird, I now have a folder "[Gmail]" that is: square bracketed, in italics, and greyed out (dimmed). The new Trash folder is normal looking and a sub-folder under the new [Gmail]. It does collect/show all the emails I delete. Something had to have changed somewhere in the last month or so because all this is different, it has not been my SOP. Now I have two Trash folders, the original one, a first level under main account, and the new one under [Gmail]. I will monitor both Trash folders and in a month or so, if original Trash folder shows no activity, I'll try to remove it. THANKS AGAIN, JohnRK
Next step.
Right click the account and select settings. In server settings select advanced.
in the IMAP server Directory enter [GMAIL] deselect Show only subscribed folders. (this is truly a preference, chose it as you like really. Select the following two entries.
Click Ok a lot
Now you should have something more normal looking.
