I have a large volume of archived messages. Their bulk slows the program's opening and general functioning. I would like to store the archived messages "outside" of the program in such a way that they would be retrievable but not get in the way of daily usage. Thanks. ...robert

I see two issues here.

1. The number of messages and folders present does not affect the speed of the program.

2. Given 1. Why not use the archive feature.

Matt... Thanks for your reply. This is the dark pit known as "computer or software..." Thunderbird comes up very slowly, sometimes taking up to 90sec to be ready for work. When it's in the background and I call it up, I get: first a border for a long time, then the window saying"not responding," and finally the program [after a while]. No other program on the computer does this, so I'm left suspecting the program.

I have already archived some 20K messages, in hopes that this might help. No help. So, I was/am wondering if the large archive is somehow involved; hence my question. Any thought on this. Again, thanks. ...robert

Your described symptom is more symptomatic of a bad interaction with an anti virus program that anything else. What are you using?
