This happens when Thunderbird cannot make contact with the internet. You can re-establish its connection by going to Menu -> File -> Offline and untick Work Offline. Alternatively you can click on the two small computer screens you see in the lower left corner of Thunderbird.

The 'Send Later' button usually appears on the toolbar to replace the 'SEnd' button when thunderbird is in 'Offline' mode.

Q: On the bottom status bar, far left..do you see a two black screen icon OR a two blue screen icon ?

If two black screen icon then you are in 'Ofline' mode. click on that two black screen icon to go into 'Online' mode and the icon should change to two blue screen icon.

I still do not have a send now or even a send later tab so cannot send ,i have checked out my server settings with my ISP they are OK . How can i resolve this problem quickly ,is it possible to save all my email addresses then download Thunderbird again Regards Colin

Send is on the Composition Toolbar in a Write Window.

Open a Write window Select View-Toolbars and turn the Composition Toolbar back on.

If this toolbar was missing you would not see Send later either so your original question is a little confusing.

I have never seen a Send button of any kind in the drafts folder so I do not think you should expect one there. You need to double click any message in the drafts folder to have it open in a Write window to send it.

Sorry but there is no Toolbar no way of doing anything from inbox, drafts i can receive mail no problem ,there is no simple fix it must be a problem with the thunderbird program . The only toolbar is on inbox page there is no option to turn anything on or off [Top RH side 3 bars ] To clarify my original question until a week ago everything worked fine, then when forwarding send tab disappeared ,close the message without saving i had the option to send later, now i have no option to send anything or turn anything off or on .Regards Colin

Sorry but there is no Toolbar no way of doing anything from inbox I do not think I said anything about the Inbox window.

Open a Write Window.

Do you have a Menu bar with File-Edit-View etc showing in the Write window?

If not, pressing the alt key or F10 should make it appear.

Yes with YOUR copy on YOUR computer you seem to have lost some toolbars. Follow the instructions to get them back.

Did I mention OPEN A WRITE window?

All window have their own toolbars. if you do not follow the instruction in the correct window, you are never going to fix anything.

When you have opened a 'Write' window and there are no toolbars. You cannot see the 'Menu Bar' = File Edit, View etc. You cannot see 'Composition Toolbar' = 'Send, Spelling, Attach, etc

Press 'Alt' key or on some machines 'F10' key. This should get a temporary 'Menu Bar'.

Then you need to make the 'Menu Bar' permanent. View > Toolbars > Menu Bar

Then make the 'Composition Toolbar' visible View > Toolbars > Composition Toolbar See image below as guide.

If the 'Composition Toolbar' does not have a 'Send' button and you are in online mode: View > Toolbars > Customise a new window opens showing available icons which can go on the 'Composition Toolbar'. Either drag and drop the 'Send' icon onto the Composition Toolbar or click on 'Restore default set' button click on 'Done' to close Customise window.

'Send Later' will send the email to your 'Outbox' folder located in 'Local Folders'. If in online mode, you can send emails stored in the 'Outbox' at any time. right click on 'Outbox' folder and select: 'Send Unsent Messages'.

If you have saved a 'Draft' of an email because you have not finished composing the email, it will be stored in the 'Drafts' folder. You can reopen that email located in Drafts and continue at any time. Double click on the draft email or right click on email and select 'Edit as new message'
