Hello. I need help with the appearance of body text. I can't tell what my email recipients see. I want to know because when I rec'v replies, what I had written looks different than when I sent it (considerably larger or smaller than I expected). BACKGROUND: In the TB Options\Display tab I have selected Verdana size 12. In the Composing tab I have tried Verdana medium and small as my body text. Medium and small appear to be the same size when I am composing. The body text looks good when I am composing but when I rec'v a reply, my body text looks either considerably smaller than when I sent it when I had set "Verdana small" as the composing body text or larger than when I sent it when I had set "Verdana medium" as the composing body text. Do you know why?

Thank you.

The number you mentioned is in pixels. hat is about 30% smaller than the points everyone expects from using windows. Leaving it set to medium in the most reliable outcome. Medium is the standard size text is rendered in a web browser.

The second thing is the font. When you specify a font you are assuming the person receiving also has that font. in the case of Verdana, it is around 99%, until you get to android phones. My understanding is it is not on them at all.

A missing font is handled in a cascading list of substitutes. the exact list will vary operating system to operating system, or even browser to browser, but this is an example from a web page.

font-family: "Times New Roman", Times, serif;

By the time you get to Serif, the appearance is often basically rubbish. After all courier is a "serif" font. so could logically be used to display your mail.

MIT publish the following as a list of fonts that the the best "web safe" fonts. http://web.mit.edu/jmorzins/www/fonts.html It is a very short list.

It is not clear on the page, but Unix+X is Android and other Linux distributions. Unix+X is an abbreviation for X windows, the underlying GUI on Android and other Linux distributions

re : In the Composing tab I have tried Verdana medium and small as my body text.

The settings in the 'Options' >'Display' tab effect both what you see when reading emails and also what you use as default for sending. So set default font for writing here.

It is recommended that you do not set fonts in 'Options' > 'Composing' tab. It is best to leave them as 'Variable width' and 'medium'.
