I have six email accounts in thunderbird. The only one that produces multiple popststae folders is a .bigpond account. All the others are OK. I have tried all the file deletion recommendations without success. One thread suggested that dropbox was the problem, but if this is the case why doesn't every account have this problem? three of the accounts are IMAP, the other three are POP. I have deleted the .bigpond account and re-installed, and imported the folders, but the popstate-N problem just came back. Bit frustrating, really would like to know what is going on.

do you have your profile on dropbox?

Thanks Matt, yes it is - what puzzles me is that the other five accounts do not have this problem, and they are all on dropbox in the same profile. I have had my profile on dropbox for years without a problem, and it is a very convenient arrangement. The popstate-N files have nothing in them, and generally have zero size.

You are lucky it works at all. It is a completely untested configuration and to be honest one I would expect to fail in short order. The use of local NAS boxes is troublesome, and here you are using a much lower bandwidth access method to get to your mail. For that to stand a chance it would have to be very low activity connection over an exceedingly fast internet connection.

I would guess you are running into latency issues. But I really do not know.
