Am I to blame for poor performance through having too much open?
I regularly experience poor performance - slow responses, occasional "not responding" messages, and so on.
Doesn't appear to be a system performance/resource issue.
Before I start investigating, I wanted to find out if I'm to blame for the way I use Firefox, which may be atypical. I often have several Firefox windows open, each with several tabs. Right now, the count is 8 windows with a total of 59 tabs.
Is this a "Well what do you expect? Bound to cause problems" scenario? Are there internal Firefox resources likely to be oversubscribed? Are they tunable?
Or is it the case that as long as the system is not showing any resource issues this ought to be fine, so the problem is not due to the number of tabs/windows open?

There are several things to consider when checking why there is a slow or sluggish behavior. Normally this means the CPU is overworked.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).
Is the problem still there?
The windows/tabs you have open, are there any active players?
Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it
