Unable to send emails as correct password not recognised by Thunderbird
Location: UK. MY ISP (Plusnet) webmail works perfectly well with the correct password but not using Mozilla Thunderbird email. Thunderbird has worked perfectly well for many years. I have double checked the incoming and outgoing server set ups again checking with the ISP (Plusnet) and all settings are correct. Thunderbird keeps telling me that my email password is not recognised.
I can receive emails perfectly well.
I have deleted Thunderbird and then reinstalled it but the problem persists.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Try turning off email scanning in your anti virus. That is a common cause of false password errors. If you have an internet security suite you might also want to check the firewall component is not blocking Thunderbird, especially if Thunderbird has just updated. They are also quite problematic after updates.
I have tried that thanks. My ISP and my Security software provider are both adamant that the problem is not at their end and that my settings are all correct. If I remove the security software the problem perisists, Thunderbird still doers not recognise the password. Ihave tried changing my password and I still cannot send emails, just receive them.
Is there any way I can enter the password directly into Thunderbird set up? Looking back, Thumnderbird never used to ask me for a password before sending emails ....any ideas why it should be doing this now and is there a way around this. Many thanks
Endret
I suddenly developed the same problem when I hadn't made any changes to my iMac. Did you ever find a fix?
