I want to switch between the results of a google search and open some in new tabs.

Hi all, I believe I remember that this function once was implemented in firefox and I used it regularly. But now I can't find it anymore:

The search results of an internet search (let's say google search results) show up in firefox one after the other. When I move my hand to the mouse and Strg + click I can open selected search results in new tabs. From the keyboard I can only use Tab to navigate from element to element - but not from search result to search result as I want.

Is there a possibility to move quickly from search result to search result? To skip all the not interesting elements? To "tab" through all these links, the maps, the ads takes ages...

Would be great if someone knew the old function in firefox at least.

Hi Ami,

I think this will restore the functionality you like: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-search-result-shortcuts/?src=search

Strg + Tab will navigate among the tabs.

Hi, that's not what I want. I'm looking for a shortcut to quickly move through the search results.

I know Strg and Tab or Strg and page up/down. What I want to do is: 1. search something with a search engine 2.(This I cannot do now) quickly move through the search results 3. Open some of the search results in a new Tab. This I can do actually at the moment - If I use the Tab key several times to navigate to the Links. And then press Strg + Enter to open a new Tab.

I only am looking for a quick way to navigate only from one link to the next (only the search results, not all the other stuff, like maps, images... )

Ah, OK, that's much clearer. I can't say that I know any built-in way to do it.

A brief study of Google output shows that the markup for an entry starts with "<h3 class="LC20lb DKV0Md"&rt;" so if you have some kind of macro capability to navigate that way....

Bing makes use of list items for each entry: "<li class="b_algo"&rt;"

Probably, you can deconstruct any result-set similarly.

Hi, that sounds nice... what kind of macro capability do you mean? I have no clue what this is.

Probably once there was a plugin or something which I had installed which used this macro - information... But how can I get it back now?

Hi Ami, Google used to have an accessibility feature where a blue > would move to the next result when you pressed the down arrow key (or the previous result when you pressed the up arrow key). Google implemented as part of its "Instant Results" feature that would build the page as you typed. Google at some point discontinued Instant Results, and this feature seems to have gone extinct with it. (It annoyed a lot of people who wanted to use the down arrow for scrolling the page, so that's why it was a topic on this and other forums.)

I don't think Google currently intercepts the up and down arrow keys, or the tab key, so if you find an add-on that lets you assign behaviors to these keys on the site, it should work. Possibly the fastest approach would be to find a user script, which generally is a short-ish script injected into the page to add functionality or make modifications. If anyone as written one.
