Why does Firefox delete the "Distribution" folder

Whenever I install a new version of Firefox it deletes the "Distribution" folder (in Windows "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\distribution"). So I have to keep a backup copy in another location so I can restore it.

Why? What is the purpose of doing this? It makes no sense. Is there a configuration setting to stop this?

Most likely that is temporary install folder and removed once install is complete. What do you mean restore it? Restore is a Windows function and if your Windows O/S is working you can revert back to last working image to restore the software.

Do you have a policies.json file stored in that distribution folder folder ?

I don't think that a Firefox update should touch this distribution folder, just like the defaults folder with pref/channel-prefs.js and a possible pref/autoconfig.js file to specify autoconfig.cfg that also shouldn't be affected, so something else might be wrong if the distribution folder gets removed.

What security software do you have in case that is interfering?
