Threads are a pain. It seems that Thunderbird decides when to create a thread and then emails no not appear in date order on the inbox list. Clicking on "ignore threads" seems to lose them completely rather than ingnoring just the thread. Any future emails on the old thread can only be found by searching for the sender! Please, Thunderbird, allow me to chose if I need a thread. Also, how do I disable threads completely so that incoming emails appear in date order in my inbox?

If it's just one folder, click view>sort by and tick 'unthreaded.' For more complete control, see this:
