I cannot access any web sites via Firefox. Internet Explorer, however, works fine. Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

I have had Firefox and Internet Explorer on my computer for several years. I normally use Firefox as my default browser but noticed within the past couple weeks that it had stopped working. I removed it from my computer and reinstalled it from the Internet -- and it still is not working. I cannot access any web sites at all from Firefox. However, Internet Explorer continues to work just fine.

The operating system on my computer is Windows XP Professional.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
