Ubuntu should update firefox for you as part of system updates
From top left of desktop
System Administration Update Manager check (button) click check button one more time Install updates (button) enter admin password
when complete (after reboot if necessary) exec update manager again, check, check, install
firefox should be listed at the top in
"Important Security Updates"
Make sure that you meet the system requirements and have a required libraries installed.

- Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Thanks for that. I did what you said and have found that the version I am running is so out of date, the up-dates can not be applied. I have yet to find a solution roundthat one.
Thanks, and yes, all that is in place. Unfortunately, I have found that the version I am running is so out of date that the up-dates can not be applied. Not sure how to get round that one.
This worked for me:
