The menu bar area of the screen burned black. I shut down Firefox and restarted, but it's still black. Firefox 8.0.1.

The menu bar of Firefox 8.0.1 turned black. I tried shutting down and restarting, but it's still black. It's usable, but it's really weird looking. I even tried searching google, but can't find a solution.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

I think I figured out what was causing the problem. I had Firefox maximized. When I returned it to it's normal window size the menu bar returned to normal. Maximized it again, turned black again. I'm now back to the normal size, and the menu bar appears as normal.
