Is there a way to restore the search bar from version 33? I like seeing which search engine I have selected and the ability to change it with a drop down list BEFORE I highlight text, right-click, and select ' Search Google for "xxxx" '

Any way to roll back this latest "improvement"?

If you miss being able to switch search engines without going crazy with menus, try this out;

Context Search {web link} Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine you want to use for each search.

If your new to FireFox enter (about:config) in the address bar. Do not add www. or () just about:config Scroll down to (browser.search.showOneOffButtons) Right click on (browser.search.showOneOffButtons) Left click on (Toggle) to set value to false. Please be careful changing settings. Tested and works on Ubuntu14.04/Zorin OS9 w/FireFox 34.

Unlike many other config changes, I had to restart the browser for this to take effect.

Much better! The new way was tedious as that tiny little triangle by the new icon is hard to click, and then you had to navigate a new slower dialog window! I like the old way much better. I'm so glad these "improvements" are configurable!

Setting browser.search.showOneOffButtons to "false" works to remove the drop-down menu, but I needed to install Context Search to be able to view and switch search engines in the search box again. Is that how it is? I'd rather not have to have yet another extension for this minor functionality--plus, I'm worried about this working in the long run. I don't suppose Mozilla is interested in just having an option...

Use the Search Engine Manager. Click the arrow in the search box, and go to the bottom of the list.

Well, changing back to the function that worked so well before 34.0.5 was certainly a tedious exercise. It took time to find this, make the change (carefully) and then restart the browser. On top of that we had to download and install a new version of Flash. All told, more than an hour. C'mon, guys. Is this necessary? I wonder if I can bring back the missing "Reload" icon by making a change in about:config.

Thank you! This has been driving me buggy since the new version.

What mozilla givith, Mozilla taketh away.

Hi thetechlady, the reload button is combined with the stop button at the right end of the box with the website address. If you want a reload button on the toolbar outside the address bar, you'll need an add-on for that.
