printing with selection chosen, doesn't print properly

more options

from Firefox, when trying to print a gmail email, when you select a portion of the email (say the bottom half of the email) when you print it (also selecting "selection" on print screen), its like it "knows" the top half "was there" and "skips" down to where the selected portion should start printing and prints it on the bottom of the page and thus prints 2 pages.

when the same is done in IE, the selection starts printing at the top of the page and prints just 1 page.

please fix firefox.

I don't know the prospects for this getting fixed any time soon -- this issue of putting the selection in its relative position has existed since around the time of Firefox 12. The severity of the problem depends on the layout of the page. Certainly you get better results using the print-formatted version of a Gmail message than the framed version.

Here are a couple add-ons that allow you to isolate the text you want to print in a way that works around the problem:

(1) Print Edit - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/print-edit/

With this extension, you call up Print Preview and then make your selection there before printing.

(2) Nuke Anything enhanced - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nuke-anything-enhanced/

With this extension, you select in the page normally, right-click, and choose Remove Everything Else. Then you can print normally (i.e., don't choose Selection in the Print dialog). Screen shots in this old post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/923294?page=2#answer-328405

To view the whole page again, you might be able to right-click Undo remove, or you need to reload the page.
