Tried Restore & now browser totally nonfunctioning! Will not operate!
I tried the "restore" thing because Firefox was indeed very slow to launch. And all I've ever gotten since then is the "Well, this is embarrassing" page that say Firefox is having trouble restoring my windows and tabs. I cannot click on anything on the page -- it just sets the browser to "Not Responding" and I have to close it. I tried turning off laptop and restarting but it made no difference. I now have to use Explorer, which of course has none of my bookmarks..... HELP!

Are you talking about refresh?
Refresh Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !
Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks, passwords, and open tabs.
Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
- Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
- Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}
Do you mean the Refresh/Reset feature in Firefox or did you do a Windows System Restore?
Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because only white-listed files are restored, so always be cautious with using System Restore.
- You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files
- You may need to reinstall affected software
Did you previously had disabled hardware acceleration?
Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift (Mac: Options) key to see if that helps.
It was what Firefox recommended if the browser was very slow to start -- perhaps that was "Refresh" --? But in the "this is embarrassing" page that appears when I launch the browser, it now gives an option to Restore, but it won't let me click on the Restore button. In the very first "this is embarrassing" screen, it did give me the option to try and recover my bookmarks, etc. in Safe Mode, which I tried but it didn't work. My security software is up to date, and I don't remember updating or changing versions of Firefox.
Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

yes, I do have that folder. And, I started Firefox in safe mode and it opened and didn't freeze. But, what do I do now?
The links above will help you restore your profile.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
